Structure of the Board
Elections
The Board of county commissioners consists of three persons who are elected every four years in staggering terms. For example, two commissioners are elected in the Presidential Election year and one commissioner is elected in the Gubernatorial year. Each county commissioner gives a bond, takes an oath of office and is sworn in before taking on official duties.
Public Proceedings
All the proceedings of the board of county commissioners are open to the public and are held at the Williams County Courthouse, Bryan, Ohio on the fourth floor. The Commissioners meet each Monday and Thursday from 9 to Noon and 1 until 4:30 or until adjournment. Meeting days may change with prior reasonable public notice. Special sessions may also be held with prior reasonable public notice.
Quorums & Special Meetings
A majority of the board is a quorum at any regular or special meeting. The clerk calls and records the yeas and nays on proceedings that involves the levying of taxes or appropriation or payment of money. The clerk states fully and clearly for the record any questions relating to the powers and duties of the board which is raised for its consideration by persons having an interest, together with the decision on such questions, and shall call and record the yeas and nays once the decision is made.
