The Williams County Records Center was awarded an Ohio History Fund Grant on February 27, 2014. There were 64 applications totaling $891,000 in requests this year. The grant funds available through donations for the program were $110,000. The Records Center was one of ten grants awarded and will receive $3,800 toward their assessment project.

Preserving History

Williams County’s Records provide valuable information about Northwest Ohio’s legacy and the individuals who settled here. Preserving the historical legacy and current records for future generations provides a sense of community. The Assessment Project provided a professional evaluation of current storage, preservation policy, and disaster preparedness. The Assessment was utilized to develop a comprehensive inventory of Williams County Records. The inventory is available to assist with research on Williams County. Many records are stored at an alternative site, to maximize search time it is beneficial to contact the Records Center in advance.

Donations of Income Tax Refunds

The Preservation Assessment was made possible in part by a grant from the Ohio Historical Society’s History Fund. The History Fund is supported exclusively by voluntary donations of Ohio income tax refunds and designated gifts to the Ohio History Connection. The Fund’s review panelists agree that there are many great history projects deserving of support; the number of applications received this year strongly demonstrates the need. Please consider donating a portion of your Ohio income tax refund to the History Fund.
